If you’ve spent any time on beauty-tok recently, or just happen to follow Australia’s beloved mum Indy Clinton on the app, then you’ve probably watch one or two videos to do with jelly cleanser gate.
tbh. Skincare
If not, here’s a bit of background: just three days ago Australian skincare brand tbh. Skin sent Tiktoker Indy Clinton, amongst a list of other influencers and beauty journalists, a sample of their highly anticipated no scrubs Jelly Cleanser. The product, which the brand wasn’t planning to reveal just yet, was accidentally leaked by Clinton, who used it in one of her iconic (and hilariously manic) morning vlogs.
@indyclinton besides the fact I’m officially a swiftie, do you ever leave your makeup on cause you think it’ll be fresh the next day but instead you wake up looking like a crusty panda
While the product was set to be released later this week, the brand have decided to launch online and exclusively into Priceline stores today, following the hype (Indy’s video amassed a sweet 1.3 million views). And it makes sense, because the comments were giving:
“Honestly been hesitant to try your products but after this I’m ABSOLUTELY going to be buying this!”
“And it took off day old mascara and her skin was glowing after!”
“I literally need it right now please release it”
“:Pre orders on website option ?”
“Indy showing an unreleased product and wow did the company take it so well…. makes me want to buy from them!
Founder of tbh skincare Rachael Wilde was alerted to the leak (the reaction was posted on Tiktok) and handled it like a gem.
@tbhskincare Replying to @Nayjustliving This is not what Rach was expecting when she woke up this morning 😂 #tbhskincare #skincarecompany #newproduct #indyclinton
“Seeing Indy Clinton leak our product was truly crazy. First I was so excited to have her love our product so much and be using it but as people started tagging tbh we realised we had to pull the launch forward,” said Rachael.
“We had been sampling the product out over the last 2 weeks to a select number of people – Indy being one! Seeing her use the new jelly cleanser to remove her make up was a pinch myself moment. It took us so long to perfect this formula, pretty much a full 12 months getting to the final version. We wanted to make sure we got the product just right – a makeup remover that transforms from jelly to milk, as your first step in your PM routine!
“As soon as Indy posted we were being tagged and DM’d and people were searching for the product on the website. So then we thought, ok we really need to just go ahead and reveal the product officially and try to bring the launch forward.”
On the night of the launch, more than one jelly cleanser sold every minute – producing the most traffic tbh skincare have ever had to the site for a launch.
Tbh. Jelly cleanser: review
Now for the good stuff: the product. tbh Skincare have branded themselves as an acne-focused brand, so with their newest product, the no scrubs jelly cleanser (RRP$32.95), they wanted to provide a solution that is suitable for breakout prone skin.
The makeup removing cleanser combines an oil-based formula that is friendly for acne prone skin, alongside nourishing ingredients like purified water and apricot kernel oil, it’s supposed to quickly remove all makeup, including long wear foundation and waterproof mascara. It’s specifically designed to remove dirt, pollutants, grime, and even stubborn makeup, leaving your skin soft, hydrated, and spotlessly clean. The product is a gorgeous peachy colour with no artificial colouring, free from parables, silicones and fragrances.
So how did it stack up when we tried it? Well, first thing’s first – my skin is incredible oily, so this seemed like a great option for me.
On the first pump, the jelly had no scent. When combined with water, it tuned into a silky cleansing milk, and definitely had the feel of an oil-based cleanser. It applied incredibly on my skin, and I literally saw my makeup melting away. Two cleanses and it took off my waterproof mascara and all my foundation. After rinsing and patting dry, my skin didn’t only feel fresh but REALLY soft – and super hydrated.
Verdict: WIN.
