The battle for space atop the running shoe podium is raging more strongly than ever, but it looks like New Balance might be about to corner the market in at least one area – daily trainers.
Daily trainers are your workhorse running shoe. They’re the jack of all trades that can perform on pavement, trails, a treadmill and everything in between. Whether you’re heading out for a quick 1km effort or a longer run, the ideal daily trainer will be versatile enough to support you with everything you need to run at your best. The latest edition of New Balance’s answer to the category, the flagship 1080 series, is available now.
The New Balance 1080v14 promises to uphold the credentials that made its predecessors so popular – that is, superior comfort, durability and stability – while also making several upgrades to enhance the running experience for all types of athletes.
The shoes of New Balance’s 1080 series has always been lauded for their cushioning and support, but the 1080v14 takes those strengths to new heights with new improvements providing a smoother and more supportive ride.
One of the upgrades is a triple jacquard mesh upper, strategically designed to increase breathability where it’s needed most, keeping your feet cool during longer sessions. The outsole has also received an overhaul to provide a more propulsive underfoot feeling, which is complemented by additional rubber in high-wear areas to boost durability.
These improvements are paired with the 1080v14’s Fresh Foam X midsole, which delivers a soft yet responsive cushioning system that facilitates smooth transitions from take-off to landing.
As part of the 1080v14 release, New Balance is renewing its partnership with budding health and wellness empire Kic for the return of the KICRUN Challenge. Enrolments for the 8-week challenge are open now. Since its debut in 2023, the KICRUN program has inspired thousands of runners across Australia, with a staggering 90,000 runs completed and 285,000 kilometres covered.
The challenge, led by Kic co-founder and Women’s Health co-cover star Laura Henshaw, focuses on fostering a supportive running community where participants are encouraged to embrace their personal running journeys. Henshaw will be joined by four KICRUN Champions, each representing a different running milestone, from beginner 0-3km runs to the more advanced 10-21km half marathon level. Each champion will wear the new 1080v14.
Two major KICRUN events hosted by Henshaw and her Kic co-founder Steph Claire Smith will also take place over the next two months. The first is in Melbourne on October 19 and the second is in Sydney on November 16. Both will give participants a chance to connect, celebrate their progress and further motivate each other.
For those eager to join the KICRUN challenge or get their hands on the new 1080v14, enrolment details and pre-order options are now available. To learn more about the KICRUN program, visit kicapp.com/kicrun, and for the Fresh Foam 1080v14, head to newbalance.com.au.
