After many requests for the brand to include more inclusive hues, Band-Aid has launched a line of adhesive bandages to match multiple skin tones.
The announcement was made via their Instagram account over the weekend, with the caption acknowledging that it was time for them to “do better” to “embrace the beauty of diverse skin.”
“We hear you. We see you. We’re listening to you,” the post read.
“We are committed to launching a range of bandages in light, medium and deep shades of Brown and Black skin tones that embrace the beauty of diverse skin. We are dedicated to inclusivity and providing the best healing solutions, better representing you.”

In addition, Band-Aid have pledged to make a donation to Black Lives Matter, although they admit it is “just the first among many steps together in the fight against systemic racism.”
And while many are applauding the move, some are baffled it wasn’t made sooner – especially considering the brand was founded back in 1920.
“It was ‘about time’ like 50 years ago… oh well, glad it’s finally happening. It’s a shame that it took a revolution for you all to open your eyes,” one comment read.
“Literally 100 years too late @bandaidbrand,” said another.
“We’ve been bruised for years and ya’ll just now figuring this out – Keep ‘em!” a third person wrote.
Others pointed out black-owned bandage companies, e.g. Tru-Colour and Browndages, were created years ago to address this very issue.
“Ok, but support @browndages, a Black-owned brand that solved this problem before you realised dark skin tones exist…” wrote one follower.
Band-Aid (which, btw, is owned by parent company Johnson & Johnson) is yet to clear up when – and if – the new colours will be made available in Australia.
